Rosy Crabapple Kiwi
Savage Plants & Landscape on February 7, 2012 in Savage Plant Picks, Tips, Tricks, & Picks, Up and Coming, What's New Comments OffActinidia tetramera var maloides
This kiwi vine is rarely seen in American gardens, which would welcome its showy presence. Its deep green leaves, tipped with white, brighten a semi-shaded trellis or arbor the summer through. In spring, a showy display of rose-pink saucer-shaped flowers appears along the stems. No fruit is produced, since this is a male clone. Climbs by twining stems so needs support. Will perform well in any reasonable soil. Until now, this beautiful vine as been incorrectly identified has A. pilosula; a different Chinese species. This fast-growing vine will reach 10 to 25 feet long. Look for this showy vine later this spring in our gardens.
